Ubuntu CD Mountain

All three flavours of the new Ubuntu Linux (x84, x64 and PowerPC) arrived on my desk this morning in a large jiffy bag. You have got to hand it to Canonical for shipping these out in such quantity, great quality, so fast and for free. They are just an awesome group of people who show that linux can be simple and for "human beings" as their slogan goes. The fact I can hand a nice CD to someone to try out makes all the difference in trying to get them on Linux for the first time. Mark Shuttleworth I salute you.

Get yours here, or ask me nicely and I’ll give you one of mine.

New DVD Burner

dvd-benchmark-part-3-scratch-the-dog-dvd-large.jpgI have finally taken the plunge only two years after I originially intended and ordered a new DVD burner. They are seriously cheap right now, I managed to pickup the LG GSA4163B for only £42.29 and that’s one of the best drives out there. It’s taken me so long to order one because I have been lucky enough to live with people who have burners already whether it’s my Dad’s or a housemate’s. My current Xbox problems (I need to burn repair DVDs) only sealed the deal, it’s just a great shame that the dual layer media is so expensive as I have stuff that is larger than 4GB to burn.
