Well this is the first post of 2006, a little late but I had to bask in the glory of my previous post. Thanks for all the positive feedback on the video, it was a sper of the moment thing I had to do as soon as I saw it and I am glad you all enjoyed it. Those kind of things only fall into your lap every so often so I had to jump on it.
I’ll keep the video up permanently in its current form as it’s not too big, if there is enough demand I may also release it as a seperate downloadable - I doubt K-1 will care or even notice.
So lets all look forward to the new year and the inevitable rematch between Heath Herring and Yoshihiro Nakao Hard Gay~!.
After an hour of tinkering the update to Wordpress 2.0 went as smoothly as ever and so far so good. I like the new WYSIWYG editor, much better than having to use a plugin and the image uploader is nice and handy now. I was also able to lose the Technorati plugin I had running before because of the ease of tagging new posts to new categories.
Aside from that readers through the feeds or the website shouldn’t notice any change to normal service.
I have tried to add my podcast feed to the iTunes directory but it may take a while to show up, I believe they may even check the content first. Good thing is iTunes doesn’t purely rely on the directory to add podcasts, just drag the RSS feed into your list and it will start downloading.
I will look into the new iTunes more when I get the chance but so far it’s looking very effective as a podcatching client.
Update: Grrr. You can’t import OPML files with your subscriptions in, Dave Winer won’t be happy.
I am having some problems with my RSS feed and am posting this as a test.
UPDATE: Well that was ugly, had to update Wordpress from 1.5 to 1.5.1.2 and thought I had lost my content for a minute there. Should be fine now but please let me know if you see anything wrong feed wise or site wise.
The masses have spoken (well it was requested by one person but what the hell) so a feed of all post comments is available here. Subscribe at your leisure.
Just upgraded the blog to Wordpress 1.5.1 everything seems to be working fine but let me know if you have any problems. For others interested in doing the same I followed this simple guide.
Well now I feel like I have done it all. Today I have been comment spammed for the first time ever! I haven’t been in the game that long and for some reason I have already been targeted by the losers that distribute this rubbish. This day is right up there with my first email spam and of course my first popup ad, I would like to thank Wordpress, Google and all those other fine web services that make this dream possible. If it happens again I will set up the blog to send every comment to me for approval and stop the beast dead in it’s tracks.
I have been writing a ‘diary’ while on placement using Live Journal. Reason being that I needed a quick, easy and free way of posting entries which LJ pretty much fulfills. I am approaching the time when I will need to consolidate all these entries into something presentable so I have a few things I could do.
1) Give the person reviewing my diary access to my private entries, trouble is the need an LJ account.
2) Convert the LJ into PDF. It can be done! I found this cool tool that takes the XML and produces an acrobat document. Looks pretty useful and the output doesn’t seem to shabby.
3) Port the LJ to Wordpress and do something with it later. I figure that if I can get the LJ entries into this wordpress blog using the built in import tool I can just extract them from the mySQL database and format them how I see fit.
I will probably do number 3 because I can stick the resulting posts into OpenOffice and format them how I see fit. Its very welcome that Wordpress make it so easy to port you old blogs over.
Oh and no it won’t be public if I do convert it onto this blog. What with all the company secrets and scandalous stories about colleagues it could never be published on the web. I do have some integrity
Just changed the header image by following this great guide from Janicek.com. Allows me to take any picture and convert it for use in on the header - very cool.
Gotta say Wordpress rocks. Its really flexible and it was worth getting the MySQL database up just so I could run it. The php is easy to understand and I was quickly able to start modifying the default theme and start adding bits to it. I now have the sidebar on every page and I added thumbnails to my latest photos on flickr.
I just started using flickr yesterday as a photo upload service and so far I am very impressed, its not really designed for storing all your photos but more for a select few that can be easily shared through tags, blogs or whatever. At the moment there are a few snaps from my mobile (Motorola V3) and from some friend’s cameras - its not hard to tell which came from a proper digital camera. I had been looking at the Pentax Optio cameras as I am after a small pocket sized device and the S5i is at a very good price on Novatech right now. Both Steve’s Digicams and DPReview highly recommend it which makes it all the more tempting.
