I was very surprised to see the Engadget podcast pop up in my aggregator today! After about three months off they are back with a new host and (hopefully) more regular releases. I had deleted this feed from Doppler after nothing came through for two months and realising Phil Tyrone (original host) had moved to MAKE magazine but looks like there is life in the old dog yet.

I have been listening to a great podcast recently called Slacker Astronomy. They just put out their first official show after doing several test runs and seem to have finalised on a good format. It’s a great listen if you want to learn more about astronomy and space in general but are scared of delving into scientific journals and magazines. They make it easy to understand with good analogies and insert some humour in to spice it up. Is it edutainment? Educasting? Edutainmentcasting? I don’t know but I like it - more please!
Looks like the veil is off the secret project Adam Curry and others have been working on. Adam posted today about changes to iPodder.org and on the front page of that site there is now a large button that points to PODSHOW.com which appears to be the secret venture being undertaken. Looks like a tool to bring together producers, on-air talent and advertisers in one easy to manage pot. It seems promising and we will probably see more professional podcasts as people move into their preferred area on production, as well as money making opportunities which have so far been nonexistent.
In Adam’s March 9th Daily Source Code he talks about bringing games and podcasting together. This was in responce to an email recieved about the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto Vice City, but as Adam isn’t a gamer and I feel he slightly missed the point. This is really about incorporating podcasts into games like GTA and treating them as the normal radio stations while in game, a pretty simple thing to do - just download the podcasts into the GTA music folder (or the soundtracks area on the Xbox) and your all set. But Adam talked about getting the tools that have been created by the developers (Rockstar North) to record these stations into the public domain. This isn’t going to happen because all they did to record the stations was mix the tracks and the DJ voices like any professional radio station would do and also even if the software did exist it would not be released as it would be an internal development tool. Podcasting and gaming have a great future together but it will more like the Major Nelson (Xbox Live team) podacast than developers providing tools.
Not only does Ron Moore come out with the best new TV show this year with Battlestar Galactica but he also gives the fans what they want. First an insider blog where he answers the fans questions indepth but now also a podcast! Holy cow he is on the ball. It’s like an audio commentary but you don’t have to wait for the DVDs to come out.
Berman take note.
