24 Movie???

Holy crapola! A 24 movie might be in the works! Use bugmenot to get in.

I can’t see the real time format translating well to the big screen but the characters and the plot will as it has always had a cinematic quality to it.

Burning Sabres

I want this tape.

Late but Inevitable Star Wars Thoughts

Haven’t blogged for a few days, been back home and didn’t find the time. Saw Star Wars Thursday night and man it was good. It was rammed in Star City, something that doesn’t happen to often given the size of the place, so it was a good job I had tickets booked and we were there early. Personally I thought the film was awesome, a non stop romp through the Star Wars universe with a power and presence that the other prequels lacked. Many critics have slated the poor pacing and generally bad directing in the movie but when I was in there I didn’t notice it one bit. The sheer epic scale of what was happening and the fact my presumptions and predictions about what happened between episodes two and four were finally materialising on the screen made it intensely exciting. Seeing Anakin’s fall and the way he is transformed into Vader was something I had waited so long to see that perhaps I enjoyed it on a different level to what the critics were describing.

Anyway, back to Lego Star Wars :-)

End Of An Era

I was 8 when I saw my first Star Trek movie at the cinema, it was the sixth movie, not great in hindsight but I loved it at the time and have grown up on Star Trek ever since. I just finished watching the final episode of Enterprise and what will probably be the last new Star Trek content produced for a number of years.

And I miss it already. It’s ironic that the best writing, acting and overall engaging storylines took place in the show’s final season. Maybe they were feeling the heat of cancellation or maybe they felt they had nothing to lose, but this year has easily been the best for Trek since Deep Space 9 at it’s peak, if only they had started the series this way it may have survived beyond four years. At least it went out pleasing the fans (see picture) and with it’s head held high.

I look forward to what the future might bring (rumoured movie trilogy anyone?) but for now they can safely hand the baton on to the awesome Battlestar Galactica to carry us through this trekless period. Live long and prosper.

Star Wars Plans

The tickets are booked, the leave has been granted and now all that remains is to get there and watch it. I am talking about Star Wars Revenge of the Sith of course and this time around I am trying something new. I want to go into that cinema without knowing anything about it. So far I have managed to avoid the onslaught of trailers and promos that seem to be everywhere, whether your flicking through the paper or watching TV it’s hard to do, but so far apart from seeing a couple of still images I have been largely clean.

Why would I do this? People who know me, know I really hate spoilers and when I say hate I really do loathe them. So I figured I would take it to this extreme to see what difference it would make. In the past when I see movies or TV shows I know nothing about or have never heard of my enjoyment of them seems to be so much greater. Add the Star Wars factor in and it’s safe to say I am chomping at the bit to see this film now.

On a related note I see loads of news stories about the infamous people camping outside theatres to buy tickets for the first showing in the US. There doen’t seem to be any problem booking online from any UK cinema which makes me wonder why they need to do that.

Star Wars Drool Fest

The new live action Star Wars TV show has been confirmed by George Lucas at last. It will be set between episodes 3 and 4 as expected and will not feature any of the main cast.

boba-fett.jpgI am hugely looking forward to this. The fact that we will have a weekly Star Wars TV show is just incredible, I can’t believe I am typing it. The scope and the depth of this thing could be massive and I just hope we get something more along the lines of Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica than a bad Star Trek (Voyager 1 Season 1 - Enterprise Season 2). Writing will be the key here, they need to hire the guys who do these great scifi shows and not rely on Lucas and his buddies to write it.

One of the cool ideas I heard a few months back for the show was a story that follows Bobba Fett arround the galaxy. That would make for an action packed show but his acting range is very limited with a helmet on ;-).

Welcome to the Scene

Just started watching an internet TV show called The Scene. It’s very unique to say the least, it’s about a scene group who release movies onto the internet before anyone else and you can’t help but think the people involved in the project have come from such a background themselves. Presented as though you were looking at the character’s computer screen, most of the story is told by reading the IRC and IM chatting that is going on between the members of this release group. You also get to see the person in question in a kind of webcam view in the top left of the screen. It’s certainly very different and not everyone’s taste but will entertain those interested in learning more about the under ground world of the scene.
