Stuff I’ve Been Doing Recently

  • Watching the outstanding final season of The Wire. More thoughts on this when I have them, but it’s up there with the best TV ever.
  • Reading the fine works of Chris Ware, most notably Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth. Creepy, disturbing, brilliant.
  • Playing Company of Heroes and the Opposing Fronts expansion after they showed up on Steam in a gold pack. I have been meaning to go back and start some semblance of an online career, playing the campaign right now to get me ready. I had forgotten how much better this is than most games in the genre.
  • Attending what will hopefully be Ken Shamrock’s second last fight (let them do the brother vs brother match). He got knocked out by Buzz Berry in the first round and all I could think sitting there in Wembley Arena was why didn’t you shoot Ken? Just shoot and take him down. Guess they didn’t have game plans back in the early days of MMA. British guys have horrible wrestling so there is no excuse.
  • Catching up on some of the movies I tragically missed recently.

Pen in the Washing Machine

That is a pen.
Stuck in my washing machine.
I only just found it.
It has been there since before I moved in.

Now I know why some of clothes look funny. Gulp.

Overwhelming Comment Spam

It’s been coming in fast all day and I just want to say big hardy FUCK OFF to all the spammers hitting my blog.

I didn’t want to but I have introduced a temporary limitation on all comments coming in - they must be approved by me first. Once you get approval you should be set. Hopefully this won’t last too long and Akismet will finally kick in.

UPDATE: Fasthosts sent me this, from my tests it looks like no external services can be accessed from the site.

We are aware that recent changes to the network configuration of our shared hosting platform have caused a number of our customers problems, specifically in relation to connections from their websites to external providers of services such as XML interfaces and feeds. Our network team are currently preparing a fix for this problem which will be applied to the platform as soon as testing is complete. We hope that this work will be completed today.

We apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused. We advise any of our customers who have pages dependent on external services which are currently inaccessible to consider temporarily removing these dependencies.

So just waiting on these guys to fix the problem before normal service can resume.

UPDATE 2: Akismet is on. Let the floodgates open!

UFC 72 Gets Less Appealing by the Minute

Read this for a good rag on the UFC 72 card. Now it seems Forrest Griffin may be out too (UPDATE: He’s back on). This is the kind of card I would forget to watch on TV let alone one I would want to fly to Belfast for. It’s also in the busiest month of MMA since last month! Which would make it the busiest month ever and there isn’t even a Pride show! Spot the odd one out:

UFC 71 - Jackson vs Liddell
K-1 US - Lesnar’s debut, Sakuraba vs Gracie 2, more Carano
WEC VS - Bantam weight battles!
UFC Fight Night - Stout vs Fisher 2 (they had a great match last time)
UFC 72 - Franklin vs Okami
Strikeforce - Shamrock vs Baroni (much delayed pro-wrestling-esque feud)
UFC TUF 5 Finale - The season has been amazing so far and we get to see the coaches go at it

I don’t know what Mr White is playing at with UFC 72. It’s not worthy of a number, it’s not good enough for PPV and if on free TV its going to totally dilute the once special nature of Spike events. Just look at the ratings for TUF right now - over saturation is already happening and your burning the non-hardcore fans out. Ease up Dana.

UFC 70 ROAD REPORT

Our trip this weekend to Manchester was absolutely amazing and we all had a great time. I still can’t believe how everything fell into place and I don’t think words can do it justice so I’ll just post these photos instead.

Thanks everybody! We won’t forget it!

UFC 67: A New Look For a New Year

Finally with the move to HD and at the first PPV of 2007 the UFC updated their presentation of the show. At UFC 67 were treated to new snazzy graphics all round with sound effects thrown in for the fun of it. This is a good move and the investment was sorely needed after years and years of the same stuff on PPV and TV.

Although I didn’t watch the show in HD initially I did manage to catch a couple of the fights in High Def the following day. Just check out the crispyness of these caps:

It’s Time for the Best of 2006 Lists

I will be posting my picks for the best games, movies, etc of 2006 in a while. I started this last year and I think it’s a great way, although totally clich√©d, to look back on the last 12 months and put everything in perspective. Last year I did a runners up and overall winner type system, this year I may do a top 5 depending on how close I feel it is. Look for this over the next few days.

Back to Life

I’m back folks.

Finished my final exam of my final year at university yesterday. I was out enjoying that fact most of yesterday, while recovering from the aftermath of that fact today.

It has been a hectic few weeks and I have had pleanty on my mind, which will no doubt be ejected onto this fine website and syndicated feedage soon. Just got back from the cinema (MI3 is great) and off to Alton Towers early tomorrow so hopefully have loads to say about those two things once I have more time tomorrow evening. Adios!

Dana did say the UFC would be on HBO soon…

…we just weren’t expecting it this soon.
