Read this for a good rag on the UFC 72 card. Now it seems Forrest Griffin may be out too (UPDATE: He’s back on). This is the kind of card I would forget to watch on TV let alone one I would want to fly to Belfast for. It’s also in the busiest month of MMA since last month! Which would make it the busiest month ever and there isn’t even a Pride show! Spot the odd one out:
UFC 71 - Jackson vs Liddell
K-1 US - Lesnar’s debut, Sakuraba vs Gracie 2, more Carano
WEC VS - Bantam weight battles!
UFC Fight Night - Stout vs Fisher 2 (they had a great match last time)
UFC 72 - Franklin vs Okami
Strikeforce - Shamrock vs Baroni (much delayed pro-wrestling-esque feud)
UFC TUF 5 Finale - The season has been amazing so far and we get to see the coaches go at it
I don’t know what Mr White is playing at with UFC 72. It’s not worthy of a number, it’s not good enough for PPV and if on free TV its going to totally dilute the once special nature of Spike events. Just look at the ratings for TUF right now - over saturation is already happening and your burning the non-hardcore fans out. Ease up Dana.

You’re right mate, i wouldnt waste my time going - wait till they come next time with a decent card!
Granted the fight card may not be as good as previous cards however it is worth pointing that an event has never taken place in Ireland, and Europe has only ever had one event before this (UFC70). As an Irish person I can tell you that this event is getting far more media coverage than any other UFC ppv event has before it. Therefore it is great for the growth of the UFC as people from Ireland, the UK and the rest of Europe are now sitting up and taking notice of the UFC. All previous UFC ppv events would not be available live on TV as Vegas is an 8 hour time difference but now that we finally have an event at a time which facilitates live TV coverage, rather than delayed coverage, and the UFC fan base in Europe will grow as a result which is very good for the sport. The card may not feature title fights but the fact the UFC is in town it is generating a lot excitment this side of Atlantic.
Good points, I’m very glad it’s increasing exposure locally but the fact remains this is a low quality card on paper and they still haven’t sold out the 10,000 seat arena. UFC 38 was the first event in UK\Europe by the way.
