Just received my subscribers copy of PC Gamer and was shocked to turn the page and see a Mass Effect preview, previously only confirmed for Xbox 360. From the article,
Mass Effect will come to PC (it’s currently only announced for Xbox 360): it’s not been officially confirmed but we have it on good authority. It’s been three years since a BioWare developed game hit the PC: Mass Effect is a forceful reminder of why that’s too damn long.
Not officially anounced by BioWare yet but you can be safe in the knowledge the PC Gamer UK is a trust worthy source and would never have taken this to press if it were false.

If you honestly think there won’t be a PC version of Mass Effect sometime in the future, you are wrong. Bioware released all of their “xbox exclusive” RPGs on the PC before, and will do it again. It will probably be atleast a year after the 360 version, but it will come out.
It’s not like it will be a hard port anyways.

But currently the team is putting it’s effort into making the 360 Exclusive version.” This is just PR Speak for “yes we will port the game to the PC, but we don’t want to loose any Xbox 360 sales, so we’ll announce the port 6 months later”. They are going to do it, we all know it, so why try to deny it?
I’d still buy Mass Effect for the X360. I predict it’s going to be your average low-brow Bioware RPG made for the consoles; fun, actioney, ooh-ah graphics but not intellectually stimulating.

It is possible that one could be made in teh future, but it would certainly be a wait of a number of years before we even start to make one, let alone actually release such a thing.

i think it’s just a strategy of microsoft to get rpg lovers to buy 360s as they are saying -xbox exclusive-. after some time though, which is after most people who’d buy 360 just for this game buys it, there will be no reason for bioware not to release it on pc to make more money, which I guess would be about a year at most from the release of the 360 version.
I’ve been told by a fairly reliable souce (contract testor at bioware who worked on Jade Empire) that there are future plans to bring ME to PC. Certainly, I’m sure it’ll be similar to the Jade Empire timeframe with the port coming later, but I will be looking forward to ME for the PC. I believe the X360 exclusive is only for marketing on Microsoft’s part. I’ve got plenty of faith in Bioware.

I find it humorous that in the forums that were linked to, there are people saying stuff like “it better not come out on PC, or else it will hurt 360 sales and the brand name”. Um, last I checked the console crowd was laughing at the PC crowd for clinging to a “dying platform”. Like a PC version will REALLY hurt 360 sales. The people that most likely would wait for a PC version are not the one’s that would buy a 360 in the first place, and the one’s that were thinking about getting one who are deterred definitely represent a small portion of the market.
Also, why would microsoft care either way? The game is most assuredly going to be a “Game for Windows” if released on PC. Sure, microsoft doesn’t get as much money that route, but it’s not like it’s going to result in any type of profit loss. The only people really fearful of a PC release are the console owners that have been feeling smug with their console purchase, and now are threatened by the fact that it’s not nearly as special as they like to think. As always.
I did have all kinds of things to say to the various arguments posted here, but what I really want to say can be summed up in 5 words:

Amazing how the first look for journalists was the first person shooter part of the game….. Another Jade Empire perhaps, rather than a Baldur’s Gate????!!
Given the similarities between Pc and 360 architecture, it would be financially stupid not to port.
Of course, by releasing to 360 exclusively, they can sell DLC in Live, but if the content is available in a PC version, Live rules says they can’t sell it. Once the DLC stops selling, they will port to PC and maximize their profits.
If they wait til the end of the trilogy to port, they will face the same poor sales as Jade Empire, so I guess, 1 year or 2 at the most.
I’ll be waiting. PC mods for this game will be godlike.

It is not yet confirmed by ARIN, but we have it on good authority that “The Internets” is powered by a giant hamster on a wheel.
1- The Dev. team has stated many times that it is a 360 exclusive. This means THE ONLY CONSOLE TO SUPPORT THE GAME IS THE XBOX 360.
2- Bioware has a LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT with microsoft. So, as it has already been determined to be an xbox 360 exclusive, you would be waiting for that contract to expire (several years at least) to be open for renegotiation for other system releases (including PC). By which time, the next ME game will have come out and the dev. team will not even bother with re-releasing for another system.

Sure as hell I’m not buying a gremlin-ridden Xbox just to play ME. Or buying ME for PC if it turns out as weak as Jade Empire(and several years late, to boot).

If and I repeat IF this comes out on PC - considering how low PC game sales are compared with console sales, I reckon it will be not out until this time next year at the earliest! But I hope it comes out eventually, even if it’s 2009, as we do not get many decent RPG’s that do not involve Wizards and Orcs nowadays!

You know that microsoft xbox is owned by the same microsoft windows company, so you know that they’ll get all there money worth out of the 360’s version and then port it to the computer to make even more money.
That’s why halo 2 and came out for the pc and why games that the 360 console have first dibs on also are released for the pc long before the ps3. I have no doubt that as soon as they are done selling it on the 360 that they’ll put it out for the computer, just like Gears of War only took a year to release to the pc, so will Mass Effect

People who own both PC and 360 the chance to buy the 360 version when it first comes out.

Its always been set to hit PC.. i dont understand why people thought this was 360 exclusive. From the get go, its been headed for PC. Whether it hits shelfs on both platforms at the same time is another matter. But its always been coming to PC… I’m sure they have released vids of the interface on both.

I have an Xbox 360 and theres nothing wrong with it. Its fast, powerful and better than a PC if youv’e got any friends in the house. If M$ is smart. they will release for PC soon (as Vista Only of course). That way, they could help further sales of Vista, which is still low on sales. That way, they could make even more money than if it is 360 only, while if they keep it 360 only, people are going to get upset as all get out.
Plus, if they release for PC and have a ME PC SDK included, they could make it so that they can get some great mods made for ME and then enhance the mods and push them onto the 360 version as DLC

Well, personally, I would be interested in the game. But I will not be buying a 360. The price point is ridiculous. Why the hell would I buy a console that costs nearly as much as my PC? What fucktart thought that up?
And I’m very disappointed in Bioware. They used to stand for something. They were just some guys making great games, unwilling to sell-out over a few extra bucks. Now, Bioware has become the biggest sell-outs of all, crawling in bed with Micro$oft.
I run Windows because I have to, for both work and school. I run Linux because I want to. Somehow, I really doubt that Bioware has to make Micro$oft exclusives.
Reasons BioWare will get it out for PC, and supporting facts
1: Mass Effect was made in the dying will of KOTOR, they know very well that it will very easily be as successful comparatively.
2: BioWare likes money, and they know moving it to PC would get them lots of money.
3: Because I will burn down their houses if they don’t.
4: PC Gamer is a pretty good source, chances are they were able to milk it out of them finally and that it’s not lying.

Vista + 4Gigs of RAM + Nvidia 8800 Series = SEXY. If it was good on console, it will be great on PC…Deal with it. Learn to accept certain facts console gamers…If it is a publisher or developer tha creates games for PC as well as console…you WILL see it on PC at some point.
