Hey check it out - there is a gaming drought!
Woohoo a chance to catch up! Oh hang on a minute Half-Life 2: Episode 1 is out this afternoon. I have preordered mine so that should keep me busy well into the night (assuming Steam holds up).
UPDATE: Just found the countdown clock for it. Looks like it is going to be out 6pm UK time.

Gaming drought my arse. What are all these hours i’m wasting on Oblivion?!
I tried to play Oblivion again on my current rig with some tweaks but I still wasn’t happy with the performance. Fuck it, I am gonna shell out for a new system - I need to play this game!
Yes you do! A billion times more great than HL2
They are very different games though you can’t really compare them fairly. One thing I will say after playing the new episode for about an hour last night is that Alyx is still one of the most convincing and believable in game characters around.
Yeah, true, but i gave up on HL2 - just didnt have the impact that HL had on me. I wasnt at all gripped. I think i’ve moved away from the FPS genre tbh, (even Quake4 which i’d been anticipating for ages didnt grab me) although i’m certain something will drag me back given time (maybe Red Steel on the Wii?! Who knows)
Well whether you like it or not HL2 was an instant classic and a great continuation to the series that showed the kind of polish and attention to detail nothing else in the genre can match. Quake 4 wasn’t too great in comparison although it hooked me more than Doom 3.
Red Steel - controls look cool but graphics suck and where is the blood if it’s called RED steel?
I never said HL2 was a bad game, its just no longer got the pull the original had, for me. FPS’s used to be about fun, now they all seem to be about the ’scare’ factor - and i’m not looking for that. I like to be scared occasionally, but not for the whole game…
