Apple Fun

Engadget have been having some fun with their photoshop contest in advance of tomorrow’s keynote from Lord Jobs. My favourite the iPod yocto.

Now let us pray at the feet of his holyness Lord Jobs for an Apple tablet.

New Space MMO With a Ton of Potential

There is a feature in space based games, whether it’s a combat sim or in this case an MMO, that I have been waiting a long time for. That feature is smooth transitions from space to a planet’s surface and back again without interruption and it looks like Infinity is going to finally deliver the goods.

So far it’s looking very promising and they already have a stunning planetary model working with some drool inducing effects as you enter and leave a planet’s atmosphere. Just check out the videos in the media section on the site to see the potential this thing has. Hopefully a decent game will come from all this as they have an awseome backbone of an engine to build off. It may even give EVE Online a run for it’s money (congrats on 100,000 users CCP by the way)!

Site Maintainence

As many of you are aware I have been having issues with my host and my wordpress installation in general. Expect some down time as I rebuild my wordpress installation from scratch. Thank you fasthosts for finally adding mod_rewrite and allowing me to do this!!

Update: Site was fully rebuilt last night from scratch. Now we have a shiny new database, mod_rewrite support and as a result feed links that work! Woo!

Ever had one of those days?

I don’t normally go into the intricacies of my life on here, partly becuase I find that kind of blogging mundane and boring as hell but what the fuck I feel like shit so here goes.

I think I have come down with the plague, I’ve had a bad throat for a few days but last night my head started to spin (not helped by cocktails) and my nose went on full flow. I have a pile of work to do and I cannot bring myself to do it in this condition. One of the benfitis of having a real job is you can take a day off and not have to do anything - not so when your a student.

Added to that the weather today was just plain miserable, I don’t normally give a crap about the weather, infact I am pretty cold blooded but today was just lousy. Walking back from the shops was not fun.

Highlight of the day so far was TNA Impact which raised my spirits for the brief time it was on. For some reason I really enjoyed this show, definately one of their best. Probablly because Christian is champ and we are headed to a beautiful Ultimate X match next month. Ahhh there we go I feel better already.

The last month has been a bit strenuous on my overall mental stability, its been way too much like a rollercoaster and if I drew a graph it would feature a lot of extreme highs and lows, sadly today is the latter. I like to know where I stand with people, I like to know that the effort I am making is not in vein but most of all I like to know that I am not being strung along with false hopes and promises.

Still got to watch BSG from Friday night so that should be thrilling once again, Ron Moore is a legend. Is it so wrong that TV has become the highlight of my day? Right now that’s what I am left with so I’m sure all of you will join me in appreciating another, if fictional legend, Mr Jack Bauer (via).

I have said too much. Adios.

TNA Now Offering Streaming PPVs

As I have mentioned in previous posts it’s hard for international TNA fans to support the company. Well now is our chance because starting from next month TNA Wrestling are streaming all their pay per views live over the net. MediaZone is providing the service at only $14.99 which includes the excellent Against All Odds PPV from Sunday. Hopefully our internet holds up here and we am able to watch, if so they will be getting my money and I urge other TNA fans to do the same.

Joe, Daniels and Styles in Ultimate X is quite a nice way to kick things off if you ask me.

GTA Franchise Worth $900 Million

Interesting article over at GameDaily about the research done into the financial worth of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Here are the important bits,

  • GTA is worth $900 million over the next 5 years (78% of Take-Two’s value)
  • 5 more PSP games
  • 3 more for the PC
  • 2 for next-gen consoles
gtalcs

Strangely it doesn’t take into account that Liberty City Stories is being ported to current generation consoles as this has been announced and confirmed by Rockstar (for the PS2 at least). Any subsequent PSP games you could also assume would be ported, although five more games for the PSP seems like an awful lot, considering only three were released on the PS2.

James Brightman makes a comment at the end of this article which I must disagree with,

…eventually gamers are likely to tire of the GTA formula, or the games will no longer feel fresh when placed side-by-side with titles that perhaps improve on that formula.

Please show me one shred of evidence that suggests gamers are tiring of the formula, 45 million units sold worldwide certainly isn’t. Also lets not forget that although the basic game mechanics have remained unchanged each subsequent title has innovated in new ways and expanded the gameplay scope. If Rockstar continue this trend and don’t rest on their laurels then I see no reason that gamers would tire of it.

It would be nice to put GTA ’side-by-side’ with other titles but lets face it nothing comes close partly because other developers are daunted by the prospects of competing. Rock on Rockstar.

Songbird Swoops In

Songbird has finally hit the net in very early version 0.1 form. It’s looking very promising from my use of it today and certainly handles web based audio excellently. As for the library and jukebox functionality I have had a number of stability issues which should probablly be expected considering the size of the library and the early version of the software. It can get about half way through my music folder then it falls over but I am not supprised really.

Once the niggles are sorted out this player will be well on it’s way to being the iTunes rival it sorely deserves to be. I am just glad the team got this release out there so we can see what they are up to and how we can help. Roll on summer for a full release candidate!

BTW if you having trouble getting hold of it Xeni has posted some mirrors up on BoingBoing.

Jimmy Carr Meets Samoa Joe

Cool video over at the Comedy Central site featuring the appearance of Samoa Joe, Curry Man (Christopher Daniels) and Frankie Kazarian on Distraction. Its the top left video, no mention of TNA strangely.

Thank You Randy

Well Randy Couture has left the UFC with his held high and his legendary status intact, thanks for the fights Randy!
