Wow I am actually posting from my phone using the new opera mini! mini.opera.com

Zach Arnold continues the discussion on P2P but in the context of the MMA and Pro Wrestling community,
For those of you who watch video of fight clips online, how popular is this trend becoming with both you and your friends? Do you use Google Video or do you strictly use BT? I am not asking you to name legal or illegal file sharing sites, but I am curious as to the methods in which you watch fight videos online and if you prefer watching video online as opposed to watching it on DVD.
I wouldn’t dream of naming sites or sources, that’s something you find out on a need to know basis only, so you can stop reading if you looking for that here.
Being from the UK and living in rented accommodation without satalite or cable television but with a broadband connection this is how I see all MMA and Pro Wrestling events. It’s not that I want to dodge paying for additional TV services or buying PPVs, I just do not have the option to.
Using these non-standard distribution methods are the only way I can get to see my favourite sports and/or entertainment. If UFC and TNA offered me a way to pay for streamed versions of their shows over the net either live or the day after I would certainly put my money where my mouth is. iTunes has proved that the PPV TV on the internet model works and it wouldn’t take much effort to expand that to MMA and Wrestling.
Right now the only way I can show my support is by going to live events and by buying pay per views if I’m at someone elses house. My only hope is that these companies see what they are missing with internet distribution and open the flood gates, allowing me and many others to become the legitimate customers we want to be.
Yet another ringing endorsement for the Bit Torrent client uTorrent. I have been an avid user of Azureus since the open source client launched many years ago, infact I’m sure that close to 99.9% of the time over these last few years it has been working away in the background so for me you could understand my reluctance to change.
It basically boils down to the familiarity versus small footprint argument. I can see no additional functionality in uTorrent apart from it requiring less system resources to run. Azureus although based on Java is feature rich, open source, has a robust plugin architecture and a strong community around it.
Java is not an issue for me - hell, I have Eclipse open most of the time because I’m writing bloody Java code. As Java has expanded and gained greater acceptance along with the increase in PC performance I see very few gains in running an unfamiliar, light weight program.
So for now I’ll stick to what I know.
Oh. My. God.
Check out Dr Keith’s follow up interview (MP3 | Stream) to the most popular post ever on my site over at Puroresu Power. The mighty Herring comes on about 80 minutes into the show.
I was just alerted by the development blog that the release of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas multiplayer is iminent and a count down timer has been put up on their site.
By the time everyone reads this the full release will probablly be out. This is something I have been waiting ages for and I’m glad the mod team feel they have a stable enough build they can now release for public consumption. From just watching the videos they have released over the last few months you can see they have added a ton of new features to make multiplayer even better.
Fingers crossed we can get it to work here given my current Internet conncection status (shared line on campus with no host to host traffic).
See you in Los Santos!
My camera, the Pentax Optio S5i, had developed a dead pixel towards the end of 2005 so we sent it to back to them after the new year. Having just got the camera back yesterday and giving it a proper testing I can say for sure that the pixel has now gone!
This camera is still awesome and the returns procedure was smooth and painless. It’s so rare we can say that these days. Thank you Pentax!
Things will be quiet on the blog front for at least a few days while I knuckle down and hammer out my January exams. It’s the final year so there are no room for cock ups, I hope everyone else going through the same thing right now has good luck, I know I need it.
In the mean time do not visit wimp.com, you will waste a ton of time. See you after the jump!
I don’t know how many of you have been following the comments in regards to the K-1 video I posted earlier in the week but it has sparked a lot of controversy and flaming.
We have had racial slurs, homophobia, accusations of a dive and many other things that are too many to mention. I think a week after this all went down it’s about time many of you come back down to planet Earth and realise what actually happend. What Nakao did was merely a taunt in the stare down which went to far, this violated Herring’s personal boundries whether he is homophobic or not and he reacted in the manner he felt just.
However it is not Herring’s responsibilty to dish out punishment in such a situation, it is the referees and any issues with Nakao’s conduct during the stare down should have been brought up with the official if needed.
As for the issue of Nakao taking a dive I feel it is beside the point. The punch was hard and he was not braced for it so there is the possibility of a knockout and sure, he could have made it look worse by lying there longer but thats not the issue. Herring took it too far and acted in a way that would affect the outcome of the fight and as such should have been disqualified.
Lets move on with our lives.
Wasn’t the console just released? Greg Howson nails it for many people reading the anouncement made at CES, but it means more than just an extra box in the living room. It means that once again, counting the hard drive as the first incident, that the 360 platform has been broken by adding an extra dimension that isn’t needed.
Sure Peter ‘Dreamcast’ Moore didn’t mention if games would be affected or not and merely stated that it was for playback of movies, but I am sure many developers are quaking in their boots at the prospects of another non-standard component added to the puzzle.
It’s a nice way to push the HD-DVD format and stick it to Sony once again but I’d like to see the movies on the shelves and a commitment to games developers made before this thing sees the light of day.
I think Andy raises some interesting points about Pride in comparison to UFC. I agree that UFC build their fights up better than Pride do on the show itself but if you read the MMA news and know the history of the fighters involved it can be just as interesting.
UFC overall is a far better product with entertaining pre-match builds and slicker presentation and feel of the entire show. This is because it’s live, most of the fighters speak English and there isn’t the huge culture gap that any Japanese production brings.
Pride do have a far better heavyweight divison with Fedor, Crocop and Hunt but UFC out classes them with welterweights such as Hughes, Penn and St.Pierre. And you know with UFC that the refereeing and judging of fights is way more down the middle than Pride where you can’t help feeling some of the officials are watching different fights.
The Ultimate Fighter has also helped to get the personalities of the fighters accross which they had always struggled to do before. To say my hopes are high for the Shamrock and Ortiz fued in season three would be a huge understatement.
So UFC is easily the best overall but for the MMA addicts who need more and maybe want to see better heavyweights Pride is an occasional entertaining diversion.
